Abstract of the talk: Alzheimer’s disease is the most prevalent neurodegenerative disorder and dementing illness world wide. Progressive memory loss and subsequent dysfunction of further cognitive domains characterize this neurological disease that will triplicate in numbers of affected patients over the next decade. While neurons have been hold as primary sites of pathology for decades, recently, evidence suggests that immune mechanisms play a pivotal role in the initiation and progression of disease. The lecture will recapitulate key findings and discuss how those could be harnessed for therapeutic intervention at various disease stages.
